Erev Yom haSho'ah

At sunset, we begin the somber day of remembering the victims and survivors of Shoah (the Holocaust). While it is still a work day, the whole atmosphere is serious. Places of frivolous entertainment, such as movie theaters and cafes, are usually closed, and TV broadcasting is limited to things with a Holocaust theme (documentaries, interviews, etc.). Tomorrow the siren will go off, and the nation will stand in silence as we contemplate that unspeakably dark moment in history.
